SATURDAY, JUNE 14: FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION, MUSIC AT THE MARKET, BBQ, FREE BROWNIE POINTS FOR DADS!

Celebrate FATHER'S DAY AT THE MARKET! Even Dads need Brownie Points and Dads can get them at the Farmers’ Market this Saturday, June 14 on 6th Avenue and at the Courthouse. There will be BBQ and MUSIC AT THE MARKET at the Year-Round Farmers’ Market at the Green Building behind the Keg on 6th Avenue - dads may not only pick up brownie points but may get a surprise while shopping at their favourite vendors.

Music at the Market is sponsored by Bluesunderground featuring Eric Tompkins: Since the early 1970s Eric has performed in a variety of musical genres, including blues, jazz and classical. In the 1980s he studied jazz improvisation and arranging at Capilano College. He has worked and performed with a wide variety of groups including his own production with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. Since 2007  performing with Neda Jalali and Navaz.

SATURDAY, MAY 31: MUSIC AT THE MARKET - ALL FARMERS' MARKET VENDORS WILL BE AT THE YEAR-ROUND LOCATION!

May 31st will have all vendors at the Year-Round location on 6th Avenue, at the green building behind the Keg as the Courthouse location will be closed due to court proceedings. It's a great place to meet and be entertained by local talents such as Jeremy and Raghu. Jeremy Stewart and Raghu Lokanathan have been collaborating whenever it struck them for almost 10 years, kicking around eclectic folk music manifestations from Americana to klezmer, rock 'n' roll to jazz. They've performed together all over the north in bands like The Cottonweeds, The Heel of the Loaf, and the Transfiguration Good News Band. Jeremy and Raghu will be playing from 10am to 11:30am on Saturday.

The PGFMA starts its "MUSIC AT THE MARKET" events at the Year-Round 6th Avenue location (at the Green Building behind the Keg) with Jeremy Pahl on Saturday, May 10; Britt Meierhofer May 24, and Benedict Beattie on June 7. At the Year-Round 6th Avenue location (at the Green Building behind the Keg); music scheduled from 11am until 12 noon although the performers may play longer. Donations to the performers are appreciated. Sponsored by Blues Underground. Singer/songwriter Britt Meierhofer is a well-toured performer based out of Prince George. Born and raised in Prince George, Britt migrated south in 2004 to study music and hone her skills in Nelson, BC, where she was able to play and tour with several projects and develop her sound. From there, the path led to Montana, where she lived for a short while, and was able to tour out of, bringing her sweet and gentle voice to audiences across the Western US. Upon returning back to Prince George two years ago, Britt set to work on her original solo project, Goodnightmare, and toured the project nationally in 2013. Having produced and released the first Goodnightmare EP earlier this year (available at www.goodnightmare.bandcamp.com ), Britt toured it to a very receptive BC fanbase, and has received radio play on CBC, as well as other local radio stations across Canada.

The PGFMA will hold its Annual General Meeting on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at CNC, Room 1-310 A. Sign-in time is 2:30 pm, meeting starts at 3:00 pm and ends at 5:30 pm. Elections are as follows: 3 positions, President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The rest of the directors will depend on the Special Resolution 25-(2). The PGFMA AGM is open to the public. SATURDAY, MARCH 1: UNBC SURVEY ON NEW LIQUOR REGULATIONS

"This weekend, Prince George Farmers’ Market will be hosting UNBC students. They will be conducting a Public Interest Survey about the possibility of selling alcohol out of liquor stores.

Since the provincial government is currently considering allowing the sale of beer, wine and liquor in grocery stores, the students are asking the population of Prince George to tell them what they think.
 
Do we need a balance between more convenient access to alcohol and possible public health/safety issue? If so, how is the sale of alcohol in grocery stores may affect British Columbian businesses?"

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22: FREE RADON TESTING KITS AT THE MARKET

John Forbes is working with the Canadian Cancer Society and will be at the Farmers' Market on February 22 to hand out FREE Radon kits to the community so that people can test their homes.

The Prince George Farmers’ Market presents a Taste the Market Chef Challenge at 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. on SATURDAY AUGUST 24th. Five local chefs from Hummus Brothers, Ramada Hotel, Shiraz, White Goose and Zaffron Cuisine will search the Market for local ingredients to create their taste of Summer. Tickets $10, available this weekend at both Market locations: Year-round at 1074 Sixth Avenue in the Green Building behind the Keg and outdoors at Third and George. Ticket holders will sample the chefs’ offerings and vote for the People’s Choice.

Only 50 tickets are available. Sold at Marlinspike Garden and Too Hot Chili Peppers booth at the Courthouse Market and October Farm booth at the Year Round Market in the Green Building behind the Keg at 1074 Sixth.

With the loss of its former indoor location on Third Avenue and George Street, the Market has now found its new home for the displaced indoor vendors. You will find a wide range of local meats including Bison and Beef, locally grown vegetables and salad greens, breads and bakings, eggs, jams & jellies, preserves, salsa, honey, fair trade coffee, arts & crafts and jewellery, soaps, tooled leather, as well as a coffee bar and hot food!
