Established in 1957, Cariboo Growers is a family run farming operation in Prince George, B.C. Fresh produce such as carrots, cabbage, beets, broccoli, lettuce, potatoes, turnips, kale, garlic, herbs, zucchini, and a number of other vegetables are grown in sandy northern upland soils. Along with fresh produce, Cariboo Growers has expanded into providing grass-fed, locally raised beef. We offer a variety of cuts and the opportunity to order large quantities in advance. Our commitment to farming and feeding the community is enhanced by our eagerness to learn new techniques in order to provide fresh and nutritious food at an affordable price. Marketing is done through the Farmers’ Markets, Super Markets, Good Food Box, and at the Farm. “We live here, our roots are here.”

Roanne Whitticase is a local rookie farmer, "organic farmer apprentice", under Andrew Adams of Hope Farm Organics, in Newlands B.C. Roanne has an educational background in health sciences and is applying her studies in health to her profession in agriculture, under the principle that food is health, food is life, and food is medicine. Roanne is also a board member of the Eaglet Lake Farmers Institute.

Raija's Harvest Farm

Vegetables, herbs, dried tea mixes, and eggs

Before becoming a farmer, I lived in Invermere, BC, where I owned and operated a high-end upholstery shop, I most times had couple people working, helping me to serve the community with my trade skills, Invermere was good to me, loved the people and the area. But all those years working in the trade I dreamed about owning my own little farm where I could live self sustainably and grow all my own food. My passion for clean food was owerwhelming I ripped the lawn out of my house in Invermere and planted a vegetable garden, but it was not enough for me. I kept coming to Prince George area for three years in search for the perfect place before finding the 80 acres I have now. It was a huge change to leave behind prosperous business and all the friends, but It was my life long dream. I planted a garden much too big for my needs, and the first three years I gave away tons of food to my neighbours or my egg customers, but now I have taken the next step becoming a Farmers market vendor and I truly enjoy the experience, all customers are so friendly and welcoming to newcomers. I'm hoping still to learn new skills in gardening even at age 63 but one thing i'll never do, is pollute my farm with any kind of chemicals. For nutrition for my garden or hay-field I use compost made of chicken and cow manure and I also free run my chickens in a places that I'm going to plant next year, I do protect my garden from my chickens by the way of electric chicken fence. I also don't feed any antibiotics ever to my animals.  My yard is not manicured, I leave everything to the nature, and that's the way I like it.

Exploration into the world of fermented foods started in 2014, when an acquaintance mentioned kombucha. “Kom-what, I said?” From there, it was a trip to the local health food store, the first taste of kombucha and the rest is history, as they say. Bottle and Crock was established in 2015, making and selling kombucha at the Prince George Farmers’ Market. Understanding our customers’ sense of adventure, we expanded our repertoire of fresh fermented offerings to include different sauerkrauts and kimchi, jun, water kefir and milk kefir. Our products are available at the Prince George Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and at  Books and Company , Ave Maria Specialties , Zoe’s Java House, and  Birch and Boar Charcuterie

Our Honey Bees produce for you: Raw Honey, HoneyComb, Bee Pollen, Bees Wax, Bee Propolis, we also produce Lip Balms and Creamed Honey

In 2013, we purchased an old rundown and overgrown homestead near Cluculz Lake, BC, and began our farming journey. We began with laying chickens and Heritage cross pigs, carefully raising them on locally grown grain with no soy or corn. Our five children help with the day to day farm work, the farm stand and markets, and with caring for their own livestock. After a few years we decided to diversify and add soap and cosmetics to our farm offerings. We have chosen to focus on traditional, sustainable soaps which use the extra lard from our pigs, only natural clays and herbs for colors, and essential oils. They feel wonderful! We have slowly developed lotions, creams, shampoo bars, and more, staying with natural colors and scents and as close to natural as possible ingredients. New things are always in the works!

My son-in-law wanted to bake for the market so we did that together for the first years. Later he got a job in a hotel and I just continued and added the sewing and knitting later on. I strongly believe in the market concept, a coming together of farmers, artisans and the public to enjoy a home grown and hand-crafted experience.

Andrew and Janie met while in Alaska. Andrew was living there at the time after attaining a BSc. in Agriculture and enjoying all of what unspoiled wilderness had to offer. Janie had taken it upon herself to go on an adventure riding her bike across Alaska and met Andrew near the village of Hope Alaska while Andrew was salmon fishing. The two fell in love and moved to Prince George British Columbia so Janie could finish her degree in education. With a deep concern for the environment and living in Prince George for a short while, the two felt obligated to help fix the broken food system and the serious threat of food security in the region, and thus the idea of Hope Farm Organics was born in 2011. They have been providing the region with certified organic vegetables ever since while innovating growing methods and breeding hardy plants for the region's difficult growing climate as well as growing gourmet mushrooms. Andrew and Janie currently supply several restaurants in Prince George and sell at the Prince George Farmers market.

Bio:

My paternal grandfather was a Baker by trade, my
maternal grandmother did lots of baking, and my mother

did lots of baking too. I grew up enjoying Home-
Made Baked Goods. It peaked my interest into

making my own baked goods. My specialty is making Cookies.

I also make Pistachio Cranberry Bark, Almond Swirl Bark, and
Sweet & Salty Nuts & Bolts. I gave my baking away to Family,

Friends, Fundraisers, Non-Profit Organizations and I

continue to do that today. Back in 2015, my Cousin sold her

products that she makes (Pineview Soaps) at an Outdoor market

just east of Prince George. One Market day, I brought out some

Peanut Butter Cookies for her, and she asked the other Vendors

if they would like to try one. One of the Vendors approached me

and suggested I should sell my Cookies. I got my start selling my
Cookies at the same Outdoor Market in 2016.
I sold there for three years and still occasionally sell there.

I believe that my work is so special, because through the patisseries and desserts that I've made. I am introducing my lovely country Syria, showing how delicious and different flavors we have and it's made by following up the safe food instructions and I'm looking to provide more and new things. I started my work as baker in Syria. I had worked in a bakery making all kinds of patisseries and Arabic desserts like PAKLAWA, KATAYEF,ASABAE, SWARET AL SET, MAROUK and few more. I loved my work so much. After we came here I started to make it at home and let the friends and neighbors test it and they liked it so much. They encourage me to sale it a let more people know about it. And here I am attending every Saturday with my patisseries and desserts looking forward to more people can test it and love it.
